Even without Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was rested for the matchup, Greece secured a comfortable 96-69 victory over hosts Cyprus.
The win allowed the team to maintain momentum in Group C, while coach Vassilis Spanoulis was already looking ahead to their next challenge against Georgia.
Off the court, however, Spanoulis faced an unexpected question from reporters.
He was asked why one of his assistants from Monaco, who also happens to serve as an assistant for the Georgian national team, was back with the club as they prepared for the upcoming season.
Spanoulis took the question in stride, responding with a calm smile.
“You know, my other assistant, Ilias Katzouris, who is also an assistant in the Greek national team, is not here. Somebody has to practice the team back in Monaco, so we can’t be all here, but you know I expected to hear a basketball question.”
On the court, the game itself was largely uneventful thanks to Greece’s dominance. Tyler Dorsey and Dinos Mitoglou led the scoring, each contributing 18 points, helping the team cruise to an easy win in front of a packed, enthusiastic crowd.
The victory reinforced Greece’s standing in the group while giving Spanoulis a chance to evaluate his roster ahead of tougher contests.
