Vassilis Spanoulis will remain head coach of Greece’s senior national basketball team, the Hellenic Basketball Federation announced Tuesday. The 43-year-old will lead Greece through the upcoming FIBA World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers, beginning later this month.
Spanoulis’ team will face Romania in Thessaloniki on November 27 and Portugal on the road on November 30, just days after he coaches AS Monaco against Anadolu Efes in EuroLeague action.
These matchups open Greece’s Group B campaign, which also includes Montenegro. The top three teams will advance to the next round, carrying their records forward.
A key factor in Spanoulis’ return is the continued commitment of NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has stated his intent to represent Greece under Spanoulis’ leadership after winning bronze at EuroBasket 2025.
Since taking over in 2023, Spanoulis has guided Greece to a bronze medal at EuroBasket, eighth place at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and success in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
His reappointment ensures continuity as Greece looks to build on recent progress heading into the World Cup cycle.
