The Los Angeles Lakers are standing firmly behind Luka Doncic as he prepares to lead Slovenia at EuroBasket 2025.

Lakers governor Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka traveled to Katowice, Poland, to attend Slovenia’s final practice before Thursday’s tournament opener against host nation Poland. Their presence highlighted the organization’s commitment to supporting its new franchise star.

Pelinka made it clear that the Lakers have no concerns about Doncic’s international participation, even after a recent knee-injury scare during Slovenia’s warm-up games. “Zero problems,” Pelinka told The Athletic. “I mean, it’s just something that we believe in for the Lakers organization.”

The backing comes just months after Los Angeles acquired Doncic in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks in February. The 26-year-old later signed a three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers, cementing his role as the centerpiece of the franchise’s future.

Doncic quickly validated that status in his first months with the team, averaging 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists. He delivered signature performances, including a 45-point game in his emotional return to Dallas and a 37-point outing in his Lakers playoff debut.

Now, Doncic’s attention shifts to Slovenia’s EuroBasket campaign, where expectations are high. Group D features France, Belgium, Israel, Iceland, and Poland, with the top four advancing to the knockout rounds.

Slovenia opens play against Poland today in front of a sold-out Spodek Arena before facing powerhouse France two days later. Doncic’s scoring and playmaking will be critical if Slovenia is to make a deep run.
