USA Basketball chairman Grant Hill praises the Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.
The four-time NBA champion was named the Most Valuable Player of the Olympics 2024, as they won the gold medal together with Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.
They went on a tremendous run, coming off with a 6-0 sweep to bring home the gold at the Paris Olympics. It was the third gold medal for James after skipping 2016 and 2021, while it was the fifth straight gold medal for the Americans.
Despite Curry’s heroic moments, James still made a significant contribution throughout the matches as he averaged 14.2 points, 10.2 assists, and 8.2 boards, resulting in a double-double.
Hill was impressed with what James could bring to the table, as his vocal leadership stood out during the tournament. It was a message relayed through his former teammate Steve Nash, now James’ co-host on the “Mind the Game” podcast.
“He was really impressed with your voice that summer, your leadership,” Nash told James on the Mind the Game podcast. “He also said you were first in the meetings, first on the bus—I don’t want to make young like a, you know what I mean, goody-two-shoes. But from a coaching perspective when your best player, most famous player, most accredited player, sets that standard every day, there’s a trickle-down. There’s a care factor, there’s a priority placed on what we’re doing.”
This is expected from the NBA four-time MVP and champion, who has the mantra to lead and get along with great players. Every time James was on the team, it was proven that it increased the winning percentage and could obtain a chip.
Los Angeles 2028 Olympics
However, there are chances that the 40-year-old forward might be his last gold in the Olympics. He is turning 43 in the next tournament, which will be in 2028, although he has been healthy lately.
James had a fantastic career with Team USA, as he acquired three Olympic gold medals, one bronze medal, and one gold medal at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship. He was an Olympic MVP and received the 2012 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year award.
