Real Madrid has secured one of Spain’s brightest basketball prospects, announcing the signing of 20-year-old power forward Izan Almansa on a contract running until June 30, 2029.
The club confirmed the move in a statement, highlighting Almansa’s decorated youth career and his return to Madrid after spending two years in the academy earlier in his development.
Almansa arrives from the Perth Wildcats of Australia’s NBL, where he played the 2024–25 season following stints with Overtime Elite, the YNG Dreamerz, and the NBA G League Ignite.
His résumé includes a string of standout performances on the international stage. He won gold at the 2022 FIBA U18 European Championship in Turkey, gold at the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup in Hungary, and silver at the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup in Spain.
In each of those tournaments, Almansa earned MVP honors, underlining his reputation as one of the most accomplished Spanish players of his generation.
The forward also represented Spain’s senior national team, making his debut before turning 20, a sign of his accelerated rise through the ranks.
Almansa first joined Real Madrid as a teenager, playing two seasons in the club’s youth system and helping the team capture the Spanish Cadet Championship in 2021. His return marks a full-circle moment in his career.
With his size, versatility, and skill set, Almansa is expected to provide Real Madrid with frontcourt depth and long-term stability. At 6-foot-10, he offers rebounding, defensive presence, and the ability to score inside and out.
