Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has responded to a resurfaced account of his 2022 altercation with Jordan Poole, dismissing the story with a pointed reaction on social media.
The report, shared by courtsideheatnba, claimed that then-Warriors coach Steve Kerr urged Poole to “stand up for himself” when Green was allegedly “bullying” him. According to the account, Poole fired back by saying Green was “an expensive backpack for 30,” a reference to Stephen Curry. The report concluded that this exchange triggered Green to throw a punch.
Shortly after the post gained traction online, Green responded by posting a string of cap emojis on his social media page, a clear indication that he viewed the story as false.
The incident between Green and Poole occurred during a Warriors practice ahead of the 2022–23 season and became one of the most scrutinized off-court events in recent NBA history. Footage of the punch was leaked to the public, sparking widespread debate about locker-room culture, team chemistry, and Golden State’s ability to contend for another championship.
While the original video left little doubt about the physical altercation, the reasons behind it have never been fully disclosed by those directly involved. Green issued an apology following the incident, and Poole downplayed the matter after being traded to the Washington Wizards in 2023.
For Golden State, the punch marked a turning point in the roster’s chemistry. Poole struggled in his final season with the Warriors, while Green signed a long-term extension with the team last summer, reinforcing the franchise’s commitment to its veteran core.
