The 2025-26 NBA season is less than two months away, and trade rumors are already swirling around top stars. ESPN’s Summer Forecast panel identified Zion Williamson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and LeBron James as the most likely players to request trades.
Williamson received 10 votes from ESPN insiders, highlighting potential unrest in New Orleans. At 25, he is entering the third year of a three-year, $197 million deal and has struggled with injuries, which could influence a desire for a fresh start.
Antetokounmpo, 30, earned seven votes, reflecting ongoing speculation about his future in Milwaukee. The two-time MVP is in the first year of a three-year, $175 million contract and has been linked to potential departures for several seasons, though no official move has been indicated.
James, 40, received six votes despite his age and no-trade clause. James is in the final year of a two-year, $101 million deal with the Lakers, and his camp has previously explored trade possibilities, though no request has been made for the upcoming season.
Other stars like Ja Morant and Trae Young received minimal votes, signaling less likelihood of a trade request. The focus remains on the league’s veteran and emerging superstars whose movements could reshape team dynamics.
Williamson’s tenure in New Orleans could be affected by the franchise’s management change, with Joe Dumars replacing David Griffin. A strong start to the season could prompt him to seek opportunities elsewhere rather than remain with a team perceived as stagnant.
Antetokounmpo’s situation remains complex, with years of speculation but limited indication of immediate action. James’ potential departure is similarly complicated by salary, age, and contract protections, making any midseason trade unlikely.
