The New York Knicks appear set to add second-round pick Mohamed Diawara on a two-way deal, according to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.
Diawara, the No. 51 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, recently parted ways with Cholet Basket, clearing the path for his move to the NBA.
The 6-foot-8 forward showed flashes of promise in the 2025 Summer League, where he averaged 7.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in 22.3 minutes per contest. His defensive presence and rebounding stood out, even as his perimeter shooting remained a work in progress.
At Cholet, Diawara posted 5.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game across 27 appearances in the French League. His production spiked in the playoffs, where he averaged 10.5 points while playing a bigger role.
Before joining Cholet, Diawara gained early professional experience with Paris Basketball and Poitiers Basket 86. He also made a name internationally, earning MVP honors at the Basketball Without Borders Europe camp in 2022.
On the national stage, Diawara helped lead France’s U20 squad to a EuroBasket gold medal in 2024, further solidifying his reputation as a defensive-minded forward with a strong motor.
New York currently has flexibility with its two-way slots, and Edwards reported that the Knicks have been considering Diawara for one since the conclusion of Summer League. If finalized, the deal would allow the 20-year-old to split time between the main roster and the team’s G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks.
