The New York Knicks are set to bolster Mike Brown’s coaching staff with the addition of another assistant coach, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv. Begley reports via Twitter that the team is hiring T.J. Saint, a rising coaching talent with a strong offensive background.

Saint has built much of his coaching résumé with the New Orleans Pelicans’ G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron. He joined the organization in the 2019/20 season when the team was still known as the Erie BayHawks.

After starting in an assistant role, he was promoted to associate head coach in 2020, and then elevated to head coach in 2022. Under his leadership, the Squadron became known for its potent offense, leading the entire G League in scoring during the 2023/24 season.

Within NBA circles, Saint has earned a reputation as a “bright offensive mind,” a quality that has clearly influenced his coaching success at the G League level.

Prior to his time with the Pelicans’ G League team, Saint spent a year as the director of basketball strategy at the University of Georgia during the 2018/19 season.

Before that, he served four years as the Detroit Pistons’ video coordinator from 2014 to 2018, honing his analytical skills and gaining valuable experience in player development and game preparation.

Saint joins a Knicks coaching staff that has seen significant reshaping since Mike Brown replaced Tom Thibodeau as head coach. New assistant coaches Chris Jent and Brendan O’Connor have been brought in to oversee the offense and defense, respectively.

Meanwhile, the team is retaining several members of Thibodeau’s previous staff, including Rick Brunson and Maurice Cheeks. Additionally, the Knicks have added player development specialists Charles Allen and Riccardo Fois, both of whom previously worked with Brown in Sacramento.

This mix of new and retained coaches reflects the organization’s efforts to blend fresh ideas with continuity as they aim to improve their performance on both ends of the court.
