De’Aaron Fox will call San Antonio home for the next five years. The point guard agreed to a four-year, $229 million extension with the Spurs that runs through 2030. Fox’s deal came six months after Sacramento sent him to Texas in a February trade.

The money puts Fox among the top-paid guards in the NBA. He gets about $57 million each year once his current contract ends next summer. Fox had one year left on his old Sacramento deal worth $163 million that he signed in 2020.

Basketball enthusiasts who follow contract developments closely often look for opportunities to back their predictions with real money. The rise of no signup needed to start betting platforms has made wagering more accessible, with no KYC betting sites allowing immediate participation without lengthy verification processes that traditional sportsbooks require.

Fox played 17 games for San Antonio last season and impressed everyone. He put up 19.7 points and 6.8 assists while he learned a new system and got to know Victor Wembanyama. The small sample was enough for the Spurs to bet big on Fox’s future.

His finger got hurt back in October when he was still in Sacramento. Fox played through the pain until March, when doctors said he needed surgery. The injury cost him the last 18 games of the year. Fox said people will finally see what he can do with ten healthy fingers.

Sacramento saw Fox’s best years before the trade. He made the All-Star team in 2023 and got All-NBA third team honors. Fox got even better in 2024 when he scored 26.6 points per game and led everyone in steals. His 60-point game against Minnesota broke the Kings’ all-time scoring record.

San Antonio wants Fox to help them get back to the playoffs. They missed six straight postseasons but think their young players can change that. Wembanyama won Rookie of the Year in 2024, and Stephon Castle took home the same trophy this year. The Spurs picked Dylan Harper second in the recent draft to add more talent.

Fox brings eight NBA seasons of experience to a team that needed a veteran leader. He averages 21.5 points and 6.1 assists for his career and moves faster than almost anyone in the league. His speed and passing work well with Wembanyama’s shot-blocking and three-point range.

Both sides got what they wanted from this deal. Fox gets paid and joins a franchise with five championship banners. The Spurs keep their main playmaker without worrying about free agency next year. San Antonio can now look for more players to put around Fox, Wembanyama, Castle, and Harper.

The extension caps a wild year for Fox that started with trade rumors in Sacramento. He wanted out of California and specifically asked to go to San Antonio. The Kings granted his wish in February, and now Fox gets rewarded with one of the biggest contracts in basketball. San Antonio hopes he can help them compete for another title.
