Boston Celtics president Rich Gotham expressed optimism about the team’s outlook for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season during a recent media interview. Despite offseason changes, Gotham said he expects the Celtics to be a strong, competitive squad.

Gotham highlighted the team’s recent moves and roster changes, acknowledging the challenges but emphasizing confidence in the new group. “We feel good about the transactions. We feel good about what we’re able to get back,” he said. “None of us have seen them together on the court as a team yet, so it’s a little bit hard to really project what it’s going to look like. It’ll look a little different than it has, but we’re excited about it.”

He also touched on the importance of leadership, praising Jaylen Brown’s role in setting the tone for the team. “JB is an inspirational leader for the team… other players, particularly the younger players, will look to him to set a tone,” Gotham stated. Brown’s leadership will be crucial as the Celtics integrate young talent like Hugo Gonzalez and Noah Penda, who were recent draft additions.

Regarding Jayson Tatum’s injury, Gotham provided a positive update. Tatum has shown progress in his rehabilitation, moving from a walking boot to more mobility. “He’s walking around a little more freely. That’s obviously very encouraging to all of us at the Celtics,” Gotham noted. However, the organization is cautious about his timeline for returning to play.

Gotham addressed fan concerns about the team’s chances after a disappointing playoff exit last season. “For our fans, in any scenario with our team, you’re going to see a team that’s out there working as hard as possible to win,” he said. “I don’t think it’s inconceivable that we will be a good team and a good winning team this year.”

Gotham also mentioned the team’s culture and development approach. He explained that the team’s chemistry will start to take shape during summer league and training camp, noting that “as we get closer to September, guys will start coming back, getting shots up, and being in the gym more.”
