The Sacramento Kings are bolstering their coaching staff with the addition of D.J. Ham, according to James Ham of The Kings Beat (no relation). D.J. Ham is set to take on the role of head of player development under newly appointed head coach Doug Christie.

Originally, the Kings had named Paul Jesperson to lead player development for the 2025–26 season. However, Jesperson parted ways with the organization last month, creating a vacancy that the team has now filled by bringing in Ham.

D.J. Ham brings with him a range of coaching experience. Most recently, he worked with the Cleveland Cavaliers as both a player development coach and video assistant.

Before that, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Cavaliers’ G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge. His coaching journey began at Northwood University – his alma mater – where he served as an assistant coach.

Basketball runs in the Ham family. D.J. is the son of Darvin Ham, a former head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers who currently serves as an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks.
