Damian Lillard has accepted an official front office role at his alma mater, Weber State, stepping in as general manager of the men’s basketball program.

The seven-time All-NBA guard made the announcement during the 2025 edition of the Weber State Basketball Alumni Classic, held at Swenson Gym in Ogden, Utah.

Lillard addressed a packed crowd after a 90-minute autograph session, stating, via Standard-Examiner, “My relationship with coach (Eric) Duft and this program means a lot to me.”

He emphasized his desire to help players grow beyond college, saying it’s something he’s passionate about and sees as a meaningful way to contribute to the program’s future.

Lillard has long maintained ties to Weber State, where he played from 2008 to 2012 before being drafted sixth overall by the Portland Trail Blazers.

His decision to take on an active leadership role comes just weeks after re-signing with the Trail Blazers on a three-year, $42 million deal following a season-ending Achilles injury with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Lillard was waived by the Bucks on July 6 after suffering the injury in Game 4 of Milwaukee’s first-round series against Indiana on April 27.

Lillard’s role as general manager will include mentorship, recruitment input, and helping guide players pursuing professional careers after college.
