Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed on a three-year, $42 million contract, which likely includes a player option for the 2027-28 season and a no-trade clause.
Veteran playmaker is currently recovering from a torn Achilles injury and won’t play in the 2025-26 season.
Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks before the 2023-24 season after asking for a trade. The Blazers received Jrue Holiday in that deal but later traded Holiday to the Boston Celtics.
Portland then reacquired Holiday earlier this offseason, giving them the chance to pair him with another veteran guard.
The Bucks stretched Lillard’s remaining $113 million contract over five years to free up salary space and sign Myles Turner.
The star guard considered not using his $58.5 million player option for 2026-27 because living in Milwaukee, away from his family, was difficult.
He had several talks with Blazers’ GM Joe Cronin and coach Chauncey Billups about returning.
Lillard wanted to finish his career in Portland but asked for a trade when the team started rebuilding around younger players Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe.
