According to Roderick Boone from The Charlotte Observer, Mason Plumlee is expected to be the starting center for the Charlotte Hornets in the upcoming season.
This year, his main competition for the position appears to be rookie Ryan Kalkbrenner and Moussa Diabate, a former two-way player.
Plumlee previously held the starting center role for the Hornets during Mark Williams’ rookie year, before he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Boone speculates that a similar scenario could unfold in the 2025/26 season, with Plumlee initially anchoring the center spot, but eventually, Kalkbrenner stepping up and assuming the starting role down the line.
Last season, in 74 games (21 starts), he averaged 4.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 17.6 minutes per game, shooting an efficient 61.9% from the field.
