Mason Plumlee understands he likely won’t see heavy playing time with the San Antonio Spurs, but he’s eager to contribute whenever his number is called, Tom Orsborn writes for the San Antonio Express-News.

“I think I’ve seen guys check in for five minutes and turn a game around,” Plumlee said. “That’s the way I look at it.”

The veteran big man, who will soon turn 36, is currently inactive while undergoing “return to competition reconditioning” following groin surgery.

However, Plumlee said he feels healthy and is excited to begin his time with a franchise he has long respected.

“When I came into the league (as a late-first round pick in 2013), the Spurs had all the guys that were winning championships, and I just remember them being so sharp in everything they did on the court, and you hear about how well it’s run behind the scenes and everybody gets hired (to become head coaches) out of here,” he said. “So you kind of know coming in that there’s something that works, there’s something unique.”

Plumlee has played 13 seasons for 7 teams, including the Nuggets and Hornets. He has averaged 7.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 874 regular-season games.
