Before last month’s NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard VJ Edgecombe received valuable advice from a seasoned veteran.

During an appearance on his new teammate Paul George’s “Podcast P” show (available on YouTube), the Baylor graduate shared that Dallas sharpshooter Klay Thompson imparted some meaningful wisdom about the experience of entering the league.

Edgecombe recounted Thompson’s words, saying, “Enjoy the journey.”

According to the player, Thompson told him, “You’re gonna win championships and all that, but draft night? That’s the best time. You only do that once.” (This transcription was credited to Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal.)

Edgecombe, the 76ers’ 2025 first-round pick, had a standout freshman year at Baylor, averaging 15 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He also led in steals with 2.1 per game and shot 43.6% from the field.

In his NBA Summer League debut, Edgecombe scored 15 points with 6 rebounds and 4 assists, demonstrating strong defense and versatility. His well-rounded game makes him an exciting prospect for the Sixers’ future.
