The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent guard TyTy Washington Jr., according to his agent Kevin Bradbury, who shared the news with Shams Charania of ESPN.
Although financial terms weren’t disclosed, the Clippers are currently pressed up against the first apron of the NBA’s luxury tax system.
This cap limitation prevents them from offering a standard NBA contract at the moment, strongly indicating that Washington’s deal is an Exhibit 10 contract.
These contracts are non-guaranteed and don’t count against the salary cap, providing teams with flexibility during training camp.
Washington, 23, was selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets.
However, his time in the league has been a winding journey so far. As a rookie, he saw limited action with the Rockets, appearing in 31 games.
During the 2023 offseason, he was traded twice – first from Houston to the Atlanta Hawks and then from Atlanta to the Oklahoma City Thunder – before being waived by the Thunder.
He spent the 2023–24 season under two-way contracts, first with the Milwaukee Bucks and then with the Phoenix Suns.
Across his three-year NBA career, Washington has logged time in 58 regular-season games, averaging 3.3 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.1 rebounds in 10.5 minutes per contest.
His shooting numbers in the NBA have been underwhelming, with a field goal percentage of .347, a three-point mark of .234, and a free-throw rate of .542.
Despite those modest NBA stats, Washington has shown promise in the G League.
Playing for the Valley Suns, he delivered an impressive campaign in 2023–24, averaging 21.7 points and 7.4 assists per game while shooting a stellar 41.4% from beyond the arc in 32 appearances.
Now entering his fourth NBA season, Washington remains eligible to sign a two-way contract, given that he has not yet reached the four-year service limit.
Should he perform well in training camp and preseason, he could contend for one of the Clippers’ two-way spots – though both are currently filled.
If not, Washington could be designated as an affiliate player and continue his development with the Clippers’ G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers.
