Ben Simmons is expected to decide on his next team within the week, with the New York Knicks and Sacramento Kings leading the pursuit, according to NBA insider Brian Windhorst.
Windhorst reported that the Knicks, Kings, Phoenix Suns, and Boston Celtics have all been linked to Simmons, though the Knicks and Kings remain the most active suitors. His update comes as Simmons’ brief tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers appears to be nearing its end.
Simmons, 28, signed a one-year, $1.08 million deal with the Clippers on February 10. However, his role in Los Angeles was limited, as he averaged 2.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in just 16.4 minutes per game over 17 regular season appearances.
Once considered one of the league’s most versatile defenders and playmakers, Simmons has battled injuries and diminished production in recent years. His career averages remain solid at 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.2 assists over 383 games.
The Knicks and Kings reportedly view him as a low-cost addition who could provide defensive versatility and secondary playmaking. Both franchises are exploring options to strengthen their rosters without significant financial risk.
Phoenix and Boston have also been mentioned as possible landing spots, but neither has been identified as a frontrunner. The Knicks and Kings are expected to push hardest for a deal before Simmons makes his decision.
