Free agent Ben Simmons says he remains intent on returning to the NBA, but only once his body is fully ready.

Speaking with Marc J. Spears of Andscape, Simmons explained that while he believes he could help a team, he does not want to risk another setback by playing before reaching peak physical condition.

The player pushed back on recent speculation about retirement, instead stressing that his focus is on rehabilitation and long-term health.

Last season, he split time between the Brooklyn Nets and the LA Clippers, appearing in 51 games, his highest total since 2020–21.

Back injuries have been the central obstacle in Simmons’ career, requiring two surgeries and extensive rehab.

He believes earlier recovery efforts missed key mobility and nerve issues, but says his current program has him feeling stronger.

The guard is now training on the court six days a week with intense, twice-daily workouts and reports no recent setbacks.

He acknowledged that even when he played last season, his movement was limited and far from where he wants it to be.

Looking ahead, Simmons said a return midway through this season is possible, though next season remains an option depending on his progress.

Simmons has also reunited with agent Rich Paul and Klutch Sports, parting ways with Bernie Lee.

He said the change reflects his desire to prioritize health and preparation before seeking his next NBA opportunity.
