Georges Niang recently opened up about his experience with Boston Celtics fans following his trade from the Atlanta Hawks. Speaking on The OGs podcast, Niang highlighted the tough expectations that come with playing for the Celtics.

He said, via HoopsHype, “They don’t give a [expletive] if I’m from Boston or not. They’re like, ‘You just took our unicorn and replaced it with a minivan.’ They’re like, ‘Get the [expletive] out of here!’” Niang captured the passionate and demanding nature of Boston’s fanbase.

Niang also compared the pressure to what former Celtics players face, noting the high standards. “Oh, so they treat y’all the same way. You’re like public enemy number one,” he added, reflecting on the scrutiny any new player faces.

Despite the challenges, Niang acknowledged the strong culture in Boston. He praised the team’s ability to manage injuries and maintain a competitive mindset. “Boston has done a really good job when guys miss games. It’s their culture. It’s who they are,” Niang said.

The forward emphasized the importance of maximizing his role to help the team win, especially with Jayson Tatum sidelined. “So now, I’m kind of in the mode of like, ‘Okay, obviously JT is out.’ What can you do to maximize what you have to help them win games?” Niang explained.

Niang also shared his approach to handling the pressure and expectations in Boston. He advised staying consistent and focused, regardless of the ups and downs. “There are going to be bad days, there are going to be great days. But just show up,” he said.

He stressed the value of perseverance and competing every day. “If you just keep your head forward… you’ll look back and 10 years will have passed you by. So just continue to grow, keep going, and show up every day. Don’t quit.”

Niang was traded to Boston on July 7 in a three-team deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks. The Celtics hope Niang can contribute as they pursue another championship.
