The Chicago Bulls and restricted free agent Josh Giddey remain engaged in contract negotiations, with the team expressing strong interest in keeping the 22-year-old guard long term.

Keith Smith of Spotrac reported Monday that a Bulls executive described Giddey as a “foundational player” and confirmed the front office hopes to finalize a deal soon. “We want to get a deal done with Josh. He’s as important of a player as we have. I hope we can find a deal that makes sense for us and him and that we’ll be together for a long time,” the official told Smith.

Talks have centered around an annual salary in the $20–25 million range. However, Giddey’s representatives are reportedly seeking a figure closer to $30 million per year, creating a gap the two sides have yet to bridge.

The Australian guard arrived in Chicago last season via the Alex Caruso trade and quickly became one of the Bulls’ most productive players. He averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists while shooting nearly 47% from the field and close to 38% from three-point range.

Giddey also joined Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen as one of just three Bulls to record at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 500 assists in a single season — a rare feat that highlights his all-around impact.

Despite those accomplishments, the front office has not moved toward meeting the $30 million annual figure. The team’s preference remains securing Giddey at a number within their proposed range.

Chicago extended an $11.14 million qualifying offer last month, preserving their right to match any outside offers. League insiders still believe a resolution is likely before training camp, though the timeline may depend on whether Giddey’s camp accepts a lower figure.
