The Boston Celtics have hired Drew Nicholas as their new Executive Director of Player Personnel, according to a report by NBA insider Michael Scotto. Nicholas joins the 2024 NBA champions after serving as a scout for the Brooklyn Nets last season.
The former EuroLeague standout brings nearly a decade of front-office experience and a decorated playing career to Boston’s staff. Before his time with the Nets, Nicholas spent two years as the Denver Nuggets’ Director of Scouting, contributing to their 2023 NBA championship run.
Nicholas began his post-playing career in 2016 with the Minnesota Timberwolves as a scout and later held positions with the Philadelphia 76ers and Celtics in similar roles. His return to Boston marks a full-circle moment, building on his previous tenure with the franchise.
As a player, Nicholas enjoyed a successful international career highlighted by two EuroLeague titles in 2009 and 2011 with Panathinaikos. He was also named the Alphonso Ford EuroLeague Top Scorer in 2006 and won multiple domestic championships in Italy, Greece, and Turkey.
The Maryland alum won an NCAA championship in 2002 before embarking on a professional career overseas, where he earned numerous individual accolades, including Greek League Finals MVP and several All-Star selections.
