Miami Heat shooting guard Terry Rozier’s involvement in a federal investigation into suspicious sports bets became clearer today, per ESPN’s David Purdum.

The player hasn’t been charged or officially cleared by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. This contradicts earlier reports suggesting he had been exonerated.

The investigation focuses on a March 23, 2023, game in which Rozier, then with the Hornets, left after just 10 minutes due to a foot injury, despite not being listed on the injury report.

Before the game, a bettor placed 30 wagers on Rozier “unders” (expecting underperformance) within 46 minutes. All bets hit, resulting in a $13,017.70 payout from a casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, which flagged the bets as suspicious.

That same day, sportsbooks in New Orleans saw a surge of similar bets on the former Charlotte standout props, prompting them to suspend betting.

The guard’s attorney, Jim Trusty, insists Rozier is not the target of the investigation, though federal authorities have not confirmed or denied that.

Trusty said Rozier previously met with the FBI and NBA in 2023 and was found to have done nothing wrong. This case is tied to the broader federal investigation that led to Jontay Porter’s lifetime NBA ban.

According to Purdum, there’s overlap between the betting accounts involved in both situations, but Trusty claims Rozier has no connection to anyone implicated in Porter’s case.
