The Memphis Grizzlies have finalized their previously reported agreement with center Jock Landale, officially confirming his signing on Tuesday via a press release (as shared on Twitter).

News of the deal first surfaced on July 5, indicating that Landale had agreed to join the Grizzlies on a one-year contract at the veteran’s minimum salary. The agreement came shortly after he was waived by the Houston Rockets, a division rival.

Around the same time, Memphis also made another roster move, agreeing to send center Jay Huff to the Indiana Pacers in a trade.

Landale initially joined the Rockets in 2023 on a four-year, $32 million deal, although only the first year of that contract was fully guaranteed.

Despite limited playing time during the 2023–24 season due to being behind Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams in the rotation, Houston – well below the luxury tax threshold – opted to keep him for the second year of the contract in 2024–25.

The 29-year-old Australian big man appeared in 42 games for the Rockets last season, starting in three of them. He averaged 4.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in just under 12 minutes per game.

His role was quite similar the year before, when he averaged 4.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in 13.6 minutes over 56 appearances.

In Memphis, Landale is expected to bolster a frontcourt that may be shorthanded when training camp begins. Jaren Jackson Jr. is recovering from turf toe surgery, and rookie center Zach Edey is also sidelined following ankle surgery.

Other frontcourt contributors for the Grizzlies include Brandon Clarke and Santi Aldama.

Landale’s new deal will pay him $2,461,463 for the season, while the Grizzlies will carry a slightly smaller cap hit of $2,296,274 for his contract.
