Former No. 1 overall pick Andrea Bargnani shared high praise for Kevin Garnett, calling him the toughest defensive opponent of his career. Speaking to Basketball Network, Bargnani reflected on what set Garnett apart on the court.
“Kevin Garnett is an absolute legend. He is definitely the best defender I ever played against,” Bargnani said, via HoopsHype.
The Italian forward, known for his scoring touch and offensive versatility, explained that most defenders never influenced his game. He noted that whether he scored or not depended more on his own performance than who was guarding him.
“Me being a very good offensive player, I never had trouble scoring against anybody,” Bargnani explained. “Honestly, I never really felt the difference of who I had in front of me. It was more about me, if I was playing bad or good, not the guy I had in front.”
However, he admitted that Garnett was a rare exception. According to Bargnani, the Hall of Famer’s intensity and skill on defense forced him to adjust in ways other defenders did not.
“Kevin Garnett affected me a lot when he was playing defense,” he added.
Garnett, a 15-time All-Star and 2008 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, built his career on unmatched energy and relentless defense. His ability to guard multiple positions, communicate on the floor, and disrupt offensive rhythm earned him widespread respect across the league.
Bargnani, who spent 10 seasons in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks, and Brooklyn Nets, rarely singled out opponents during his career.
