During his introductory press conference this week, the Detroit Pistons’ second-round pick Chaz Lanier expressed strong confidence in his ability to contribute right away as a rookie for his new NBA team.
Speaking to reporters, Lanier emphasized his willingness to step into whatever role the team requires.
“I’m coming in ready to do whatever they need me to do,” he said, according to Coty M. Davis of The Detroit News.
Lanier described himself primarily as a shooter, saying, “I am a shooter first, that is what I hang my hat on; putting the ball in the basket.”
Yet, he also acknowledged the importance of defensive impact at the professional level, adding, “However, I believe that at the NBA level, you need to be able to make an impact on defense. That is how I plan on making my mark.”
Last season, he averaged 18.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 steals in 31.4 minutes per game, while shooting 43.1 percent overall, 39.5 percent from deep and 75.8 percent at the stripe.
