Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams is reportedly close to securing a long-term contract extension with the franchise following his breakout postseason and All-NBA campaign.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania on ESPN’s NBA Today, the Thunder are “fully focused” on finalizing an extension with Williams, and there is “momentum” in the negotiations. Both sides have reportedly aligned on the framework of the deal, signaling an agreement could be reached soon.
Williams, 24, is entering the final year of his four-year, $20 million rookie-scale contract. His current deal, signed after he was drafted 12th overall in 2022, expires at the end of the 2025–26 season unless extended before then.
The versatile guard-forward emerged as a cornerstone of Oklahoma City’s championship run this year, playing through a significant wrist injury while delivering standout performances throughout the playoffs.
Despite the injury, Williams averaged 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists over 23 playoff games. His historic stretch included a 40-point effort in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers, making him the third-youngest player ever to reach that milestone in a Finals game.
He also became the first player under 25 since Shaquille O’Neal in 1995 to post at least 25 points and five rebounds in three consecutive Finals contests. Williams capped the series with 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists in Oklahoma City’s Game 7 win to clinch its first NBA championship since 1979.
