The Orlando Magic are bringing in experienced NBA assistant Joe Prunty to join Jamahl Mosley’s coaching staff, league sources told Marc Stein on Saturday.

Stein reported via X that Orlando is “adding Bucks assistant Joe Prunty as well as God Shammgod” to the bench alongside Mosley, further strengthening a staff that will guide a revamped roster next season.

Prunty, 56, arrives in Orlando after serving as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he stepped in as interim head coach multiple times, most recently in the 2023–24 campaign. He has accumulated nearly three decades of NBA coaching experience since starting with the San Antonio Spurs in 1996.

Over his career, Prunty has worked for nine NBA teams, including the Spurs, Mavericks, Trail Blazers, Cavaliers, Nets, Suns, Hawks, and Bucks. He has served as an interim head coach on three occasions — twice in Milwaukee and once in Atlanta.

During his tenure as an assistant, Prunty won three NBA championships with the Spurs in 1999, 2003, and 2005. Most recently, he added an NBA Cup title with Milwaukee in 2024.

Orlando’s coaching moves accompany a busy offseason in which the team acquired Desmond Bane and Tyus Jones and drafted Jase Richardson and Noah Penda. The Magic appear to be prioritizing both veteran leadership on the bench and youthful talent on the court.

God Shammgod, widely known for his player development work and signature ball-handling expertise, also joins the staff, adding another layer of skill development to the organization.
