The Memphis Grizzlies announced they are converting the contract of two-way center Jay Huff into a four-year standard NBA deal. This decision comes after Huff’s impressive start to the season, where he is averaging 13 points, 3.3 rebounds, and shooting 57.1 percent from beyond the arc.

NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news via X, highlighting Huff’s performance as a key factor in the Grizzlies’ decision. The 7-footer has quickly established himself as a valuable asset for the team.

Huff went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft and initially joined the Washington Wizards for the 2021 NBA Summer League. He signed with the Wizards on September 21, 2021, but was waived shortly after.

On October 18, 2021, he signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. His time with the Lakers was brief, as he was waived in January 2022 before rejoining the South Bay Lakers.

In July 2022, Huff had a strong showing in the Lakers’ Summer League, where he recorded nine points and seven rebounds in his debut against the Miami Heat. This performance led to him signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Lakers later that month.

However, Huff was waived again in October 2022, leading him to rejoin the South Bay Lakers for further development. He continued to showcase his skills in the G League.

On March 2, 2023, Huff signed a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards. During his time with the Wizards, he earned the NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year award, leading the league with an impressive 4.0 blocks per game.

In July 2023, he participated in the Houston Rockets Summer League before signing a two-way contract with the Denver Nuggets later that month. His journey continued with the Nuggets until he joined the Grizzlies.

On July 24, 2024, Huff signed a two-way contract with Memphis. He made an immediate impact, scoring a career-high 18 points in a home victory against the Orlando Magic on October 26.
