The New Orleans Pelicans have waived rookie guard Antonio Reeves, according to a report by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. League sources confirmed the decision just one year after Reeves joined the team on draft night.
Reeves, 24, was selected with the 47th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic before being traded to New Orleans in exchange for two future second-round pick swaps. He officially signed with the Pelicans on July 23, 2024.
In his debut NBA season, Reeves appeared in 44 games and started six, averaging 6.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.9 assists in 15 minutes per game. He shot an efficient 45.6 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from three-point range.
Over his final 10 games of the season, the guard raised his scoring output to 15.4 points per contest. He also spent time with the Pelicans’ G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron, where he averaged 24.9 points and 5.8 rebounds in 11 games.
Before entering the NBA, Reeves played collegiately at Illinois State and Kentucky, finishing his college career with averages of 15.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. His senior year at Kentucky stood out, as he averaged over 20 points on better than 44 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
