The New York Knicks are nearing a decision on their next head coach, with Mike Brown currently considered the leading candidate for the job, according to multiple reports.

Brown, who was dismissed by the Sacramento Kings in December, is expected to receive final approval from team governor James Dolan before a formal agreement is made.

Brown would be replacing Tom Thibodeau, who was let go despite leading the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000.

The team has been in active discussions with coaching candidates and has communicated to prospective hires that they are close to making their choice.

In addition to Brown, James Borrego is being considered for a significant role on the coaching staff. Borrego, who previously interviewed for the head coaching position, could join the team as Brown’s lead assistant if a deal is finalized.

Rick Brunson, a key member of the previous staff and a strong presence in the locker room, is expected to remain with the team.

Jason Kidd was initially viewed as the Knicks’ preferred choice to take over the bench, but the Dallas Mavericks declined to grant permission for the Knicks to speak with him, effectively removing him from contention.

The Knicks’ coaching search appears to be entering its final stage as the team looks to build on its recent playoff success with a revamped staff.
