Damian Lillard is expected to have several teams vying for his signature once he clears waivers, following the Milwaukee Bucks’ decision to waive and stretch his contract in order to create the necessary cap space to sign Myles Turner in free agency.

While the move came as a surprise, Lillard is reportedly content with the outcome, as it gives him the freedom to choose his next destination.

Despite being sidelined for most – if not all – of the upcoming season due to a torn Achilles suffered during the first round of the playoffs, Lillard is drawing early interest from multiple title contenders.

The Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, and Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams expected to actively pursue the veteran guard once he becomes available.

Lillard, who will focus on recovery throughout the 2025–26 season, now faces a strategic decision: sign with a team immediately and rehabilitate under their supervision, or remain unsigned for the time being while evaluating the league’s shifting landscape and waiting for the right fit.

Either way, teams will be signing Lillard not for this season’s impact, but with long-term value in mind.
