The Miami Heat have acquired forward Simone Fontecchio from the Detroit Pistons in a sign-and-trade deal that sends veteran sharpshooter Duncan Robinson to the Motor City.
The trade was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, who confirmed that Robinson signed a three-year, $48 million contract with Detroit before being dealt.
Robinson, 31, leaves Miami after seven seasons with the franchise. He exits as the Heat’s all-time leader in made three-pointers with 1,202 and ranks among just eight undrafted players in league history to eclipse 1,000 career threes.
With the Pistons aiming to add shooting alongside Jaden Ivey and Cade Cunningham, the move gives Detroit a proven perimeter threat who shot 39.5% from deep last season and averaged 12.8 points per game.
In exchange, Miami picks up Fontecchio, a 6-foot-8 Italian wing who impressed in a short stint with Detroit after being acquired from Utah at the 2024 trade deadline.
The 29-year-old posted 15.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 30.3 minutes per game over 16 appearances with the Pistons in the 2023-24 season. He shot 42.6% from three and 47.9% from the field during that stretch.
Last season, Fontecchio’s role diminished as he averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 16.5 minutes per game.
Fontecchio is entering the final year of a two-year, $16 million deal and gives the Heat a floor-spacing forward who can fill minutes in an aging rotation that struggled to generate offense last season.
