The San Antonio Spurs are reportedly targeting veteran center Luke Kornet in free agency, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

In his latest Substack column, Fischer wrote, “Another center target, sources say, that rival executives expect San Antonio to pursue: Boston’s Luke Kornet.” The 7-foot-2 big man just completed his fourth consecutive season with the Celtics and is now an unrestricted free agent.

Kornet, 29, played a career-high 73 games in 2024–25 and made 16 starts for Boston. He averaged 6.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 18.6 minutes per game while shooting 66.8% from the field.

His performance was critical to the Celtics’ depth behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford, especially during stretches when both missed time. Boston finished the regular season with a 61–21 record, second in the Eastern Conference.

Now off a one-year, $2.8 million deal, Kornet enters free agency following a strong postseason run. He appeared in 11 playoff games this year, averaging 4.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 16.4 minutes while shooting 72.4% from the floor.

The Spurs, who ended the season 34–48 and missed the playoffs, are widely expected to add depth around 2023 No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama. San Antonio ranked near the bottom of the league in rebounding and interior defense, two areas Kornet could help address.

Known for his verticality and ability to defend without fouling, Kornet has carved out a consistent role in the NBA despite going undrafted in 2017. Across his career, he’s suited up for the Knicks, Bulls, Celtics, Cavaliers, and Bucks.
