The Sacramento Kings have begun gauging trade interest in guards Malik Monk and Devin Carter as they seek to acquire a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
League sources told HoopsHype that the Kings are actively exploring the market for both players, with Sacramento aiming to retool its roster following a disappointing 40–42 season that ended in a Play-In loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
Monk, 27, is coming off a productive season, averaging 17.2 points and 5.6 assists per game while shooting 43.9% from the field across 65 appearances. He started 45 games and is under contract through 2027, with a player option in the final year of his four-year, $78 million deal.
Carter, 23, played a more limited role during his rookie campaign, averaging 3.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 11.0 minutes per game across 36 contests. He is entering the second season of a four-year, $22 million contract, with Sacramento holding team options on the third and fourth years.
During the season, the Kings reportedly held Carter out of trade discussions for Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson, indicating the team initially viewed him as a long-term piece. However, their willingness to now test his market value signals a shift in strategy.
Despite Monk’s scoring ability and experience, his contract value and upcoming player option could impact trade negotiations. Meanwhile, Carter’s age, low cost, and defensive upside may attract interest from teams looking for young rotation guards on team-friendly deals.
