The Houston Rockets are expected to turn down their $44.9 million team option on Fred VanVleet’s contract to negotiate a new multi-year agreement.
Declining the option gives Houston greater flexibility in shaping VanVleet’s next deal while managing their overall salary cap structure.
VanVleet, represented by agent Rich Paul, originally signed a three-year, $130 million contract with the Rockets during the 2023 offseason.
Both sides recently agreed to move the team option decision deadline to June 29. VanVleet has expressed a desire to remain with the organization.
In the 2024–25 season, VanVleet appeared in 60 games for Houston, averaging 14.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.
