Kevin Durant was informed he had been traded to the Houston Rockets while appearing live on stage at Fanatics Fest, according to Arye Pulli.
The 36-year-old forward smiled upon hearing the news and asked the crowd if it was real before offering a short response: “We’re gonna see man, we’re gonna see.”
The Phoenix Suns dealt Durant to Houston just days before the start of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, marking a major shift in the Western Conference.
The Rockets sent Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the upcoming draft, and five second-round selections to Phoenix in exchange.
Durant averaged 26.6 points across 75 games this season and now joins a Rockets squad that finished second in the West with a 52–30 record.
The two-time Finals MVP adds veteran firepower to a team led by Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., and Fred VanVleet.
With a deep rotation and balanced roster, Houston is positioned to make its deepest playoff push since reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2018.
For Phoenix, the trade follows a disappointing 36–46 campaign that left the team outside the postseason picture.
The Suns acquire a 23-year-old scorer in Green and a proven perimeter defender in Brooks while also increasing their draft capital.
In addition to Houston’s No. 10 pick, Phoenix now holds three first-rounders and eight second-round selections heading into the offseason.
League sources confirmed that Phoenix had also engaged in discussions with Miami and San Antonio before settling on the Rockets’ offer.
The Heat reportedly offered a package built around veterans and future picks, but it did not match Phoenix’s valuation.
Durant had interest in San Antonio, though the Spurs declined to include key young players in any trade scenario.
By dealing Durant to Houston, the Suns secure both immediate contributors and long-term assets as they retool around Devin Booker.
The Rockets, meanwhile, gain a proven postseason scorer with championship pedigree while keeping their young core intact.
Durant remains under contract through the 2025–26 season with a $54.7 million salary next year.
