The San Antonio Spurs are not actively pursuing Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, according to a report from ESPN.

Despite ongoing league-wide speculation about the two-time MVP’s future, sources told ESPN that the Spurs have not held any “substantive discussions” regarding a trade for Antetokounmpo. The organization appears focused on building around Victor Wembanyama through the draft rather than trading away assets.

ESPN noted that while the Spurs have received interest from teams trying to move up to the No. 2 pick in next week’s draft, San Antonio has remained conservative in its approach. The front office is expected to select guard Dylan Harper, pairing him with Wembanyama and Stephon Castle to form a long-term core.

Antetokounmpo, who averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists this past season, remains under contract in Milwaukee. Although the Bucks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for the third straight year, league insiders say there’s no clear indication he’s looking to leave.

Appearing on Run It Back, The Athletic’s Sam Amick downplayed the chances of Antetokounmpo being traded, saying, “I’ll say zero.” Former NBA guard Lou Williams echoed that sentiment, suggesting the forward’s social media activity signals he is staying put.

Milwaukee is dealing with key challenges this offseason. Damian Lillard is expected to miss extended time, and the team has only one tradable first-round pick. Still, the Bucks are focused on retaining Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis while pitching Antetokounmpo a larger offensive role moving forward.

Meanwhile, San Antonio is unlikely to pursue any high-profile veteran at the cost of young assets. Phoenix’s Kevin Durant is also available, but according to ESPN, the Spurs aren’t inclined to meet the Suns’ steep asking price.

San Antonio finished the 2024–25 season with a 34–48 record, 13th in the Western Conference. Though linked to trade rumors involving stars, the franchise appears committed to a patient rebuild around Wembanyama.
