Los Angeles Lakers forward Dorian Finney-Smith recently underwent surgery on his left ankle to address a lingering issue, according to a report by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
The 32-year-old veteran is expected to fully recover in time for training camp ahead of the 2025–26 NBA season. The procedure, performed earlier this week, was aimed at alleviating chronic discomfort that had hampered his mobility over multiple seasons.
Finney-Smith appeared in 63 regular season games for the Lakers this year, averaging 8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and shooting 41.1% from three-point range. He logged 34.0 minutes per game in five playoff contests, though his scoring dipped to 6.2 points per outing as the Lakers were eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
His defensive versatility and ability to stretch the floor helped solidify the Lakers’ forward rotation, especially after the departure of Anthony Davis.
Finney-Smith holds a $15.4 million player option for the 2025–26 season, with a decision deadline of June 29. He is also eligible for a contract extension before free agency begins on June 30.
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the Lakers can offer Finney-Smith a three-year, $54 million extension starting the day after the NBA Finals end. Whether he opts in or tests the market, the forward’s health status will be a key factor in any future negotiations.
