Josh Hart has publicly backed former Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau following his dismissal, calling out those criticizing the veteran coach after his exit.

“All yall talking trash about Thibs lame as hell,” Hart posted on X. “A different direction was taken but yall should be appreciative for what he did for the team and organization.”

Thibodeau was relieved of his duties days after New York’s Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Indiana Pacers, despite leading the franchise to a 51–31 regular-season record and back-to-back 50-win seasons.

Reportedly, Knicks owner James Dolan personally conducted exit interviews and led the decision-making process on Thibodeau’s future. Player input was a significant factor in the change.

Several players reportedly criticized the coach’s heavy minute distribution and lack of in-game adjustments. One player allegedly told the team they wouldn’t consider returning if Thibodeau remained in place.

Despite the criticism, Thibodeau’s résumé in New York includes three playoff series wins—the franchise’s most in a 20-year span—and a Coach of the Year award in 2021.

Hart’s comments reflect a segment of the locker room still loyal to Thibodeau, who oversaw one of the team’s most competitive stretches since the 1990s.

The 67-year-old will be paid over $30 million in guaranteed money from his terminated contract. He is not expected to remain with the organization in any other capacity.
