Daniel Gafford could be an appealing trade target for the Los Angeles Lakers, but acquiring him likely wouldn’t come cheap, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic (via BasketNews.com).

On his podcast, Buha suggested that the Lakers would probably have to overpay to convince the Dallas Mavericks to make a deal.

He speculated that a package including guard Gabe Vincent, rookie Dalton Knecht, and a future first-round pick might be the kind of offer necessary to get Dallas to seriously consider moving Gafford.

Gafford, who is set to earn $14.4 million in the final year of his contract next season, presents a financially manageable option for teams looking to shore up their frontcourt.

However, his solid production and the Mavericks’ depth at the position make him a valuable asset and a potential trade chip.

For the Lakers, pursuing Gafford would help address their interior defense and athleticism at the center spot, but it would come at the cost of young talent and draft capital – a price they’ll have to weigh carefully.

Gafford has played 6 seasons for the Wizards, Mavericks, and Bulls. He has averaged 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in 378 regular-season games.
