Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins was at the center of a volatile incident Monday night in Puerto Rico during a Baloncesto Superior Nacional game between the Guaynabo Mets and the Vaqueros de Bayamón.
Late in the fourth quarter, Cousins was ejected after receiving two technical fouls following a series of physical exchanges in the paint. The situation escalated quickly as he left the court.
While walking toward the tunnel, Cousins exchanged gestures with fans near the sideline. In response, several individuals in the crowd threw drinks and other objects in his direction.
The 34-year-old center reacted immediately. Cousins attempted to charge toward the stands, and security was forced to intervene as he pushed through personnel in an effort to confront the fans involved.
Multiple team staff and arena workers restrained him and eventually escorted him off the floor. No injuries were reported, but the moment brought the game to a brief halt and drew widespread attention across the league and social media.
The Vaqueros won the game 101–91 behind standout performances from Chris Duarte and Scotty Thompson Jr., who combined for 51 points. Thompson hit seven three-pointers off the bench, finishing with a game-high 30 points on 64% shooting.
Cousins recorded 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in 26 minutes before his ejection. He also committed four turnovers and shot 1-of-5 from beyond the arc.
The contest had been intense throughout, with both teams exchanging physical plays and hard fouls. Vaqueros big man Danilo Gallinari added 14 points and 11 rebounds, while former NBA center JaVale McGee contributed 17 points and seven boards.
The Mets fell short despite 20 points from captain Jaysean Paige and 17 from veteran forward Ysmael Romero.
