Victor Wembanyama’s rare combination of size and skill has captured the attention of NBA legend George Gervin. The Spurs star, standing 7-foot-4 with remarkable agility, is changing how big men are viewed in the league.

Gervin emphasized that Wembanyama’s true edge lies in his basketball IQ, not just his physical gifts. Speaking to NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Gervin said, “Not at HIS size, NOPE. What he’s able to do with that size… See, Scoop that also breaks down to knowledge. Knowing how to play, you know? I think THAT’S an advantage.”

Wembanyama’s ability to think and play simultaneously is rare for a player of his stature, Gervin added. “If you can think AND play at the same time versus just play…? You can see the separation and he can think and play.”

This season, Wembanyama has repeatedly demonstrated his all-around dominance. On October 31, he recorded a rare five-by-five stat line with 25 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, five steals, and five blocks, becoming only the third player in NBA history to have multiple five-by-fives.

His performances have included historic feats such as scoring 50 points with eight three-pointers on November 13, and becoming the youngest player to record 30-plus points and 10-plus blocks in a game on December 21.

Wembanyama’s blend of scoring, defense, and playmaking has placed him among NBA’s elite. Before his season was cut short by a deep vein thrombosis diagnosis in February, he averaged 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, and led the league with 3.8 blocks per game.
