Victor Wembanyama put on a career-best performance, dropping 50 points to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 139-130 victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.
The 20-year-old phenom made a career-high eight three-pointers, going 8 for 16 from beyond the arc, and hit 18 of 29 field goals as the Spurs secured their second consecutive win.
His scoring outburst made him the fourth-youngest player in NBA history to reach the 50-point mark, following Brandon Jennings, LeBron James, and Devin Booker.
San Antonio found its rhythm early, with Wembanyama posting 30 first-half points to keep the Spurs ahead. The young center added six rebounds, two assists, and three blocks, further solidifying his presence on both ends of the court.
Devin Vassell provided additional scoring with 17 points off the bench, marking his third game back after offseason foot surgery.
For Washington, Jordan Poole led with a season-high 42 points, connecting on six three-pointers. However, Poole’s effort couldn’t prevent the Wizards from suffering their sixth straight defeat.
The Wizards got solid contributions from Corey Kispert, who added 19 points, and Jonas Valanciunas, who finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds, but their defensive struggles allowed the Spurs to pull away in the fourth quarter.
San Antonio’s defense also showed up when needed, with Chris Paul adding 11 assists and three steals, and Zach Collins providing a defensive presence off the bench.
San Antonio limited turnovers to just nine, allowing their offense to stay productive and consistent.
The win marks a significant milestone for Wembanyama, who is now one of eight Spurs players to have scored 50 points in a single game, joining franchise greats like David Robinson. The Spurs improved to 5-6 on the season, while the Wizards fell to 2-11.
