According to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, the San Antonio Spurs are a team worth keeping an eye on when it comes to potential trade discussions involving Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown.
While the Celtics haven’t signaled any clear intention to move Brown, Mannix speculates that if such a scenario were to develop, San Antonio could emerge as a serious suitor.
“The team I’d watch the closest with Jaylen Brown is probably the Spurs,” Mannix said, highlighting San Antonio’s potential interest in acquiring a two-way All-Star wing to pair with their rising franchise cornerstone, Victor Wembanyama.
While he acknowledged that the Spurs might also have ambitions of chasing other superstars, such as Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, Mannix questioned the viability of those pursuits.
“Sure, I think [the Spurs would] love to make a run at Giannis,” he added. “But do the Bucks ask for Stephon Castle? Like, is that on their wish list? And if it is, I can’t see San Antonio doing a deal like that.”
Mannix suggests the Spurs, despite having young assets like Stephon Castle, may be cautious in trade talks to protect their long-term rebuild.
Still, their draft picks, young talent, and clear direction make them a team to watch, especially if a star like Jaylen Brown becomes available.
