Suns lower Kevin Durant price, Rockets remain hesitant

The Phoenix Suns have been actively engaged in trade discussions with the Houston Rockets centered around veteran forward Kevin Durant.

A primary motivation behind these talks appears to be the Suns’ desire to reclaim control of their future draft assets, beginning with the No. 10 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft – a selection currently held by Houston.

In recent negotiations, the Suns have shown a willingness to reduce their initial trade demands for Durant, signaling a more flexible stance in pursuit of a deal.

Despite this softening of their position, there remains skepticism around the league regarding whether an agreement will ultimately be reached.

For Houston, the idea of acquiring Durant is not without appeal; his experience and star power could be a valuable complement to the team’s emerging young core.

Still, there is ongoing debate within the organization about whether the cost, in terms of assets, salary, and future flexibility, aligns with their long-term vision.

Meanwhile, the Rockets’ once-strong interest in Devin Booker has diminished.

Though previously viewed as a more attractive option than Durant due to his age and scoring prowess, Booker’s underwhelming performance last season, combined with the sizable, long-term contract he carries, has made Houston increasingly hesitant.

That contract is expected to grow even larger, as Booker is projected to sign an extension with the Suns this offseason.

Should a trade for Durant materialize, it would likely necessitate a new contract as well, albeit for a shorter term than Booker’s.

This may make Durant marginally more palatable from a financial standpoint, but questions remain about his fit and timeline relative to the Rockets’ youthful roster.
