The Indiana Pacers are focused on keeping center Myles Turner beyond this season, sources told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. The team faces skepticism from rival executives who expect the Pacers to avoid luxury tax penalties, a pattern seen over many years.
Turner, 29, is in the final year of his two-year, $40.9 million contract. He has been a key contributor during the 2024-25 season, averaging 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 39.6% from three-point range.
In the playoffs, Turner’s production has increased, posting 16.3 points and 2.3 blocks per contest over 12 games. His defensive presence and outside shooting have helped Indiana reach the Eastern Conference Finals as the No. 4 seed.
Despite the Pacers’ history of cautious spending, ownership reportedly is willing to exceed the luxury tax threshold to keep the current roster intact. The franchise’s unexpected deep playoff run has changed the financial outlook, with plans to increase payroll next season.
Turner’s role has been critical, especially in matchups against high-powered offenses. His ability to protect the rim and space the floor fits well with the Pacers’ core, which also includes Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam.
The team’s recent loss in Game 3 of the conference finals against the New York Knicks has not diminished their chances of extending Turner’s stay. With the series still alive, the Pacers hope their postseason success will encourage Turner to remain in Indiana.
