The Sacramento Kings have hired former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Bobby Jackson as an assistant coach, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Jackson joins head coach Doug Christie’s staff after previously serving in multiple coaching roles for the organization.
The move reunites two former teammates, as Jackson and Christie played together in Sacramento for five seasons during the early 2000s.
Jackson, 52, spent six of his 12 NBA seasons with the Kings, becoming a fan favorite for his bench scoring and energy during the franchise’s most successful stretch.
He previously worked as an assistant for Sacramento from 2013 to 2021 and coached the Stockton Kings, the team’s G League affiliate, from 2021 to 2022.
His return comes at a transitional moment for the franchise following the departure of former head coach Mike Brown and the trade of longtime point guard De’Aaron Fox.
Christie took over head coaching duties on an interim basis in December 2024 and was officially named the permanent head coach on May 1.
The Kings missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season, falling to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference play-in tournament.
They finished the 2024–25 regular season ninth in the West at 40–42, continuing a pattern of inconsistency after their playoff appearance in 2023.
