According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the Golden State Warriors are expected to show interest in veteran center Brook Lopez during the upcoming offseason.
Strengthening the center position is a top priority for the Warriors in free agency, and they are specifically looking for a big man who can stretch the floor offensively.
That skill set is especially important, as whoever fills the role will be sharing the frontcourt with Draymond Green and, potentially, Jimmy Butler.
Brook Lopez fits that mold perfectly. He’s widely regarded as one of the top floor-spacing centers in the league thanks to his shooting ability. Entering his 18th NBA season, Lopez will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Adding to the intrigue, he has personal ties to the Bay Area – having attended school nearby and still maintaining a home in the region.
Lopez has spent the past seven years with the Milwaukee Bucks, but the team could be heading for some roster changes this offseason.
If the Bucks shift direction, Lopez might seek a starting role on a playoff contender.
The Warriors, meanwhile, are expected to have the flexibility to offer him either the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception (estimated at $14.1 million) or the smaller Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception (around $5.7 million), depending on how they manage their cap situation.
